Mosquitoes Problem in Hydroponics

  • by

One common problem in hydroponics is mosquitoes. As mosquitoes lay their eggs in stagnant water (around 100 eggs per reproduction cycle) this problem is More common when using the Kratky method.

The mosquito’s life cycle = Eggs –> Larva -> Pupa –> Adult mosquito
The all process is taking 8-10 days.

The best way to keep mosquitoes out is to cover all openings so the mosquito female will not be able to get in and laying their eggs.

As mosquitoes not laying their eggs in moving water using water pump or adding air using air pump will also solve the problem. On anyway, it’s recommended to check your system every few days and check if there are any larvae. If you do see larvae, you can do the following:

  • Take them out using strainer.
  • Check from where they got in.
  • Try increasing the water flow / adding more air pump to increase the water moment.
