How Many Cucumbers Does One Cucumber Plant Produce?

  • by

The question of how many cucumbers a cucumber plant produces has always intrigued me based on an internet search I did, the average is between 10 and 15 cucumbers per bush.

Since I am an amateur hydroponic grower I decided to check how many cucumbers a hydroponic cucumber plant produces. In the experiment I did I took two cucumber starters and grew them in the same hydroponic system in the same tank to ensure equal nutritional conditions for both, in addition of course the lighting and temperature conditions were completely identical.

The cultivation was carried out on the balcony, while in the same hydroponic system (in different vessels) tomatoes and peppers were also grown.

I wrote every cucumber I picked in excel including the date. below is the table:

Results

You can see that the picking period lasted almost two and a half months, the first cucumber was picked on May 8 and the last on July 17

The results I got are surprising. One of the plants produced 22 cucumbers significantly beating the data I found online. The second plant produced exactly half the number of cucumbers – 11, a number that is within the average range according to the data I found online.

We can see that

Conclusions

I don’t really have an explanation for the difference… as I mentioned the two plants received completely equal conditions.
My main conclusion is that the experiment needs a larger number of plants – in the next experiment.
The experiment was carried out in the summer at an average temperature of over 30 degrees and without a shading solution. I am sure that at a temperature in the region of 25 degrees and a shading solution the results would have been better.

Bottom line

cucumber is an easy plant to grow that grows very quickly and provides a nice yield. There is nothing like eating a freshly picked fresh cucumber free of sprays and delicious.
